Winter issue of "Arizona's Edible Seasons" is out!

"Arizona's Edible Seasons" is a quarterly E-zine for Arizona Gardeners & Cooks

Mesa, Arizona--November 27, 2007 --- Catherine Crowley, better known as The Herb Lady, of Herbs 2 U, announces the release of the third issue of the E-Magazine "Arizona's Edible Seasons - Winter 2007-08" in conjunction with Lulu Enterprises, the world's fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books.

This quarterly issue covers December - February with detailed planting information for all Arizona Elevations, recipes, colorful photos, planting cards, critters in the garden, how to find your local farmers market and what is seasonally available, and ideas for greening up your life, the Arizona way.

An e-magazine ("e-zine"), like an e-book is an electronic, downloadable .pdf file, which can be small or large. The e-magazine is not available in a printed format. This format is a less expensive (shipping and standard type of printing charges are eliminated) way to deliver subject matter of interest to readers. An e-magazine is meant to be a series of similar topic areas of interest, and may be smaller in page number size than an e-book. A cover shot and preview of each issue is available on the publisher link -- www.lulu.com/herbs2u

Herbs 2 U was founded to educate and inform folks on gardening with herbs, edible flowers and other edible plants, and then how to bring those useful and flavorful plants into the kitchen, and create declicious meals, with real food for real flavor.

Catherine is also the author of "Edible Landscaping in the Desert Southwest: Wheelbarrow to Plate" -- all about how to garden successfully in the desert and includes gardening tips, a month-by-month calendar, and recipe ideas on how to use of the garden bounty, and "101+ Recipes from The Herb Lady" -- over 150 recipes using real food for real flavor.

Catherine's classes on growing and using edible herbs and flowers and other edibles are offered in locations around the Valley of the Sun, both private and public, including the Desert Botanical Garden and Boyce Thompson Arboretum.
New E-Magazine for Arizona Gardeners & Cooks

New E-Magazine for Arizona Gardeners & Cooks

Mesa, Arizona--July 24, 2007

Catherine Crowley, better known as The Herb Lady, of Herbs 2 U, announces the launch of a new E-Magazine "Arizona's Edible Seasons" with the first issue of this downloadable e-magazine "Summer 2007" in conjunction with Lulu Enterprises, the world's fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books. Each issue of this quarterly e-magazine is highlighted with colorful photos of her gardens and the critters that visit, recipes and tips for the cook, where to find seasonal produce, comprehensive planting information for all gardening zones of Arizona (but useful in USDA 6-10 areas too), information on greening up the household, and even an herbal crossword puzzle for fans.

When to plant the edibles, identifying plants and critters in the garden, learn what's good and bad, recipes for seasonal cooking, and other useful and fun stuff. A resource guide is always included. With this new format, Catherine hopes to give the Arizona resident a practical guide, with current and helpful information on gardening and cooking.
All in a magazine you can store on your computer and search at will.
Catherine explains the choice of doing an E-Magazine. "I contemplated another book with all of the additional and more current information out there (for example all the newer research on the antioxidant levels of various produce and herb choices), but a book takes a lot of time from keyboard to retailer, and I wanted to be able to give my readers and fans the information quicker, and to finally share with them many of the photographs we have taken and will take of the gardens. I also wanted readers to be able to find 'the' article they were reading, but can't remember where it was. A downloadable, storable .pdf file makes searching for a word or phrase a breeze."
Although the intended audience is Arizona residents, the planting information and of course recipes, are useful for all areas of the US. The planting information is set out by zones and includes all three of the best known zone references: USDA, Sunset, and Arizona Regional Zones.
An e-magazine, like an e-book is an electronic, downloadable .pft file, which can be small or large. The e-magazine is not available in a printed format. This format is a less expensive (shipping and standard type of printing charges are eliminated) way to deliver subject matter of interest to readers. An e-magazine is meant to be a series of similar topic areas of interest, and may be smaller in page number size than an e-book.
"The Herb Lady" Has a New Cookbook!

For Immediate Release

New Cookbook by The Herb Lady
Is Out of the "Oven."

Catherine Crowley, better known as The Herb Lady, of Herbs 2 U, announces the publication of "101+ Recipes from The Herb Lady" in conjunction with Lulu Enterprises, the world's fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books. The cookbook is for beginners, experimenters and "I have to be on a low salt/fat diet" cooks -- all can learn how to cook with flavor through the use of herbs and spices instead of relying on salt and fat, or artificial ingredients.

With over 150 healthy recipes plus tips on herb uses, fun facts and history, this cookbook is suitable for every cook from the college student to the retired.
From beverages to dessert, the book uses theme herbs and spices to show the cook how to create with flavors with herbs and spices such as fennel seed, Mexican oregano, fenugreek, and epazote, in addition to more commonly known herbs like basil, marjoram and rosemary -- edible flowers, too! Many of the recipes are vegetarian and vegan friendly.
Catherine, The Herb Lady included a special index for looking up primary ingredients--what are you cooking with tonight? Chicken, yogurt, salmon, rice, eggs, even tofu! Large type and easy to follow directions, will make this cookbook a favored edition to the kitchen. A complete alphabetic list of recipes is also included.
Cooking and supper clubs will find the recipes and ideas a great starting point for club events.
Scheduled to hit the book stores and Internet by mid-December, the book can be purchased in time for holiday gift-giving through a special publisher's link at www.lulu.com/herbs2u.
Granola's Natural Foods to Carry Salt-Free Spices from The Herb Lady

Granola's Natural Foods to Carry Salt-Free Spices from The Herb Lady

Catherine Crowley, better known as The Herb Lady, of Herbs 2 U announces an agreement with Granola's Natural Market in Chandler, Arizona to carry her private recipe line of Salt and Additive-Free Spices.

Salt and additive-free spices are nothing new. What is new and special about The Herb Lady's line is their fresh and appetizing appeal. Blended in small batches to ensure their freshness, these dried herbs and spices bring incredible flavor to all foods. And they only contain herbs and spices. No flowing agents, starches, fillers, sugars or chemicals are used in the blends. And all are salt- free.

"Folks can always add salt," explains Catherine, The Herb Lady, "but you can't remove it." "I let customers know they can take our blends and make their own seasoned salt, if they care to. The point is they control the ingredients and the amount of salt in their food."

The focus is flavor. "If you had to cook chicken or tofu every night," asks The Herb Lady. "Could you make it a ‘wow, this is great,' instead of ‘not ______ again!" Dried spices with fresh and appealing combinations put the ‘wow' into cooking. The blends from Herbs 2 U make creating tasty meals easy.

These spices arose out of The Herb Lady's use of her own fresh garden herbs and spices. Since many cooks do not have access to fresh herbs, the idea of creating a line of dried spices using recipes developed by The Herb Lady, was born.

The first three blends will be introduced April 29, 2006, at the Granola's store located at 5055 West Ray Road, Chandler, Arizona 85226, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information call: 480/940- 1571.

Catherine, The Herb Lady teaches and writes on growing and cooking with herbs, flowers and other edibles in the Valley of the Sun. Class and event schedule is available at the website www.herbs2u.net, click on "learn" for details.

The Herb Lady, author of the book "Edible Landscaping in the Desert Southwest: Wheelbarrow to Plate," is also a regular guest on Ed Phillip's streaming radio www.azalmanac.com, and her column appears monthly in the online edition of the East Valley Tribune.

Herbs 2 U was founded to educate and inform folks on gardening with herbs, edible flowers and other edible plants, and then bringing those useful and flavorful plants into the kitchen and creating mouth-watering meals.

Granola's Natural Market is a place that provides a fun and educational experience for customers seeking a healthier lifestyle and want to feel better through nutrition. At Granola's they really care about what you put in your body. They work hard to provide their customers with a healthy mix of solid nutrition, important information, and great people. "Granola's - Your Neighborhood Health Nuts," is their slogan.

In addition to The Herb Lady's spices, Granola's offers a fresh juice bar, fresh produce, including baby vegetables from Maya's at The Farm at South Mountain, other grocery foods, books, and beauty and health aids.

The Herb Lady Announces Herbal Celebrations Contest

The Herb Lady Announces Herbal Celebrations Contest

Herbs 2 U and Catherine, The Herb Lady announce their first ever contest inviting gardeners and cooks to submit their favorite tradition or recipe for holidays and celebrations, with a chance to win one of The Herb Lady's Private Blend line of herbs and spices.

Without celebrations many of us would have no traditions or joyous occasions. Whether it is a public holiday like Labor Day, a religious holiday such as All Souls Day (Day of the Dead), Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan or Diwali), or personal -- weddings and births, we celebrate with food and decoration.
The contest is a way for folks to share their traditions of food and decoration with a theme of edible herbs and edible flowers, to have a chance to win a blend of herbs and spices, and to build a calendar of Celebrations.
Herbs and flowers have been used in celebrations for millennia beginning with harvest festivals and honoring the cycles of life, death, and seasonal change.
Contest rules and ideas for submitting entrees are posted on the Celebrations & Holidays page at the website www.herbs2u.net. The contest will run with weekly winners through mid- January.
The Herb Lady says "We already associate herbs with certain holidays and celebrations. Folks may simply accept what has always been, without knowing the origins of the use."
Some ideas from the website included:
THANKSGIVING: A roasted turkey with a dressing made of herbs is a classic example of herbs used both for flavoring and with a purpose. Like many of the aromatic herbs Sage is a digestive aid. But more than that it was discovered during the middle ages in England that Sage was particularly useful in the digestion of the very fatty meats which were a normal part of the huge meals they partook of - much like our current love affair with our sumptuous Thanksgiving Dinners. The rest of the usual poultry seasoning: thyme, rosemary, oregano, marjoram are also digestive aids. So pass the turkey and always include the Sage!
BITTER HERBS: Used in Jewish feast dinners, bitter herbs remind them of the bitterness of their slavery under Egyptian rule. Historically the bitter herbs were chicory, dandelion, endive, lettuce, sheep sorrel, watercress and by association Rocket (arugula). Again all these herbs are digestive aids, contain high amounts of Vitamin C and even calcium.
RAMADAN: During this feast of Islam special desserts and teas are prepared with Hibiscus Flowers or Rose Flower Water (and rose essence is also used as a perfume). Aside from their special attributes for desserts, Hibiscus Flowers contain high amounts of Vitamin C and Rose Flowers are an uplifting and rejuvenating fragrance.
CHRISTMAS: Rosemary and Lavender have long been associated with Christmas. Legend says that during their flight to Egypt, Mary and Joseph stopped to rest and Mary spread her cloak on Lavender and Rosemary bushes. As a result Lavender was given its beautiful fragrance and Rosemary's originally white flowers were turned to blue.
Herbs 2 U was founded to educate and inform folks on gardening with herbs, edible flowers and other edible plants, and then bringing those useful and flavorful plants into the kitchen and creating mouth-watering meals.
